Overview
The Lead Mechanical (Fire & Plumbing) Engineer is responsible for the design, management, and technical oversight of fire protection and plumbing systems for building projects. This role ensures full compliance with international and local codes, safety requirements, and project standards. The Lead Engineer provides strong technical leadership, coordinates with all stakeholders, and delivers efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective fire and plumbing design solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and approve designs for plumbing and fire protection systems only.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA, IPC, Estidama, and applicable Green Building standards, as well as local authority requirements.
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, reports, and engineering calculations for fire and plumbing systems.
- Oversee design development, installation, testing, and commissioning activities related to plumbing and fire systems.
- Lead and manage teams of engineers and CAD/BIM designers.
- Coordinate with architects, civil, structural, electrical, and infrastructure teams to ensure fully integrated designs.
- Manage project schedules, technical deliverables, and design milestones.
- Provide leadership throughout all design stages, from concept and schematic design through detailed design and project delivery.
- Lead design reviews, technical workshops, and coordination meetings.
- Set objectives for senior and junior engineers, monitor performance, and ensure high-quality outputs.
- Conduct design reviews, technical risk assessments, and quality control checks.
- Ensure systems meet safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency requirements.
- Ensure full adherence to company Quality Policy and Quality Objectives.
- Review drawings, technical correspondence, and reports prepared by the team to maintain professional standards.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance on system selection, value engineering, and cost optimization.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and supporting documentation.
- Review fee proposals to fully understand project scope and deliverables.
- Monitor project profitability and report progress to senior management.
- Justify equipment selections and expenditures for approval by Associates and Directors.
- Promote continuous improvement in design efficiency, coordination, and delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree is preferred).
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in plumbing and fire protection design, with proven leadership experience.
- Professional registration is preferred.
- Strong expertise in fire suppression systems, water supply systems, drainage, stormwater, pumps, and hydraulic calculations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools, and fire/plumbing calculation software (Elite or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles related to plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Familiarity with Estidama and Green Building standards (experience in Dubai / UAE projects is a strong advantage).
